The Lenovo Chromebook Duet 5 as a “Daily Driver”

Lenovo has introduced an excellent 2-in-1-tablet and computer with its Duet 5. But is it suitable for daily work instead of a Chromebook laptop? I put it to the test for a month.

“Your next computer is not a computer.” It’s a rather strange promise that Apple has been making for a few years now because, after all, the iPad is a computer — just without a keyboard. And yet I have to admit that the advertising slogan has stuck with me. A device that is ultra-portable yet powerful? Freed from all unnecessary ballast? That accompanies me to the office as well as to the sofa? A tempting prospect.

Not an Apple fan

As much as I admire Apple’s innovative power, I could never warm up to the largely closed and extremely conservative ecosystem “made in Cupertino.” I like the freedom to give my Android smartphone a new launcher if I don’t like the default look. I like the straightforwardness and moderate performance hunger of Chrome OS, which lets me do my everyday tasks without much thought or “system patriotism.” And I appreciate the ever-growing selection of Chromebooks from a wide variety of manufacturers over the past few years, which saves me…
