“Welcome to the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi.”

Ahh! The moment of hearing ‘New Delhi’ led to an excited shiver passing through her whole body. It had been a couple of months that she hasn’t seen her city, her guy.

“The temperature outside is 15 Degree Centigrade.”

Whereas, inside her she could feel the blood running rapidly through her veins, her palms sweating due to excitement while she struggled to breathe in a normal pace.

“For your own safety, kindly keep your seat belts fastened till the seat belt sign is switched off.”

While she waited to break open these locks, run right outside the plane, through the exit gates, towards the Delhi roads.

“Ensure that you carry all your belongings”

Humph! Vacation 2013! She laughs at herself when she recalls her favorite pair of glasses that she forgot on the plane; while he took it as a mission to replace them.

“You may now use your cell phones…”

Damn! Still no network! She wanted to make a call right away to the person who would be equally excited to meet her.

“Thank you for flying with us…”

No. Thank YOU! She wanted to scream. She wanted to thank them for bringing her to the city, to him.

It was 8 PM, on February 14. She finally made it for the Valentines’ Day! Such days have always been in passing for her; but this year it was different. The distance had made her a bit thin-skinned. She had started to find affection in anything and everything they did together; and began to crave such meetings.

Undeniably, she longed for him in those days away. But, she also cherished the period of separation they had earned. The butterflies in her stomach were coming back to life. Enchanting hugs were becoming timeless again. Playfully entangling her fingers to his was enduring now. The relentless conversations, the stealing glances, those inescapable smiles and much brighter eyes were all back in the frame.

She had an ear-to-ear smile when she searched for him at the exit gate. He had promised to pick her up on time; and he always lives up to his promises. She dialed his number, with her eyes scanning the pathway.

After several unattended phone calls “I won’t be able to make it tonight” bounced on the screen. She couldn’t believe her eyes, and laughed hysterically on herself for flying all the way just to meet him. All the dream-perfect images of their affection shattered within seconds, when her tears told a story different from her expectations.

She convinced herself not to settle without talking to him. After an hour of sitting on one of the benches outside the airport, she felt fortunate getting a call from him. He was in a rush while he instructed her to go back home, as he would be trapped with some other commitment the whole night. Refusing to listen to his full explanation, she disconnected the call and decided to spend her night the way she sought right.

She spent that night doing what he had always denied her to do. She refused to let him and his suggestions affect her plans this time.

No. She didn’t approach Bud. Or anyone else. She decided not to approach anyone for her contentment today.

That night, she opted to stay with the most dependable person in her life: HERSELF!

Hit and spread the love.
