We want to make sure that you and your loved ones have a place to sleep in the winter. We made this list of great resources with places that offer free shelter and a hot meal. At some of these winter shelters, you can get more than just shelter and food. During the winter, you or people you know can easily get a cold, so these programs also provide health assistance. You can also access services for find jobs or housing and recovery programs.

San Francisco

You can find a place to sleep and get a hot meal with this program. This winter shelter for homeless adults is open to everyone and you will be able to get lots of different free services. When you stay here, you will have access to hot meals, showers, laundry facilities, and a bed. You can also get health care services from a drop-in clinic.

Oakland (for Seniors)

Seniors in Oakland can get many different kinds of free help and services. This program provides beneficial and friendly help to seniors who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Some of these opportunities you will get access to include: staying at a winter shelter, help with transitional housing, help finding permanent housing, treatment for addiction and mental health disorders, and help managing your money.

Berkeley

Find all the things you need at this overnight shelter. In addition to shelter, you can also get free food from the food pantry and hot meals on soup nights on cold winter days. This program provides other services for you like legal, tax and health services.

Livermore

It’s getting cold outside! But you can stay inside and stay warm at this free welcoming overnight winter shelter for homeless people in Livermore. This shelter will provide you with a safe and clean place to stay and is open to all races, genders, and religious and spiritual beliefs.

Alameda (for Youth)

Youth that are 13–18 years old can get shelter during the winter and the rest of the year as well. The program provides a safe, trustworthy, and positive environment to help youth finish school and contribute to their community. During the day, youth can get free food and hot meals, laundry facilities, computer access, workshops, hygiene and school supplies.

Oakland (for Seniors)

This free winter shelter is specially open for seniors in order to make a more comfortable environment for seniors who may avoid shelters full of younger people. Their supportive and helpful staff create a small, safe, and welcoming environment. You can also get a healthy, home-cooked, hot meal for breakfast and dinner. It’s also a great resource because it has a variety of services, from health and mental health services, to help finding permanent housing.
