We often find ourselves busy and refer to it as being productive. There’s a clear cut difference between being busy and being productive. Productivity entails one doing much in a short period of time while being busy means one is occupied but not necessarily achieving any goal.
Productivity encompasses having goals and focus. It is about time management. According to the Author of Productive Muslim book Muhammad Faris, he defined productivity as Focus ×Energy × Time. It is having a set of goals to be achieved over a certain period of time with determination. This goes to show that to be productive one has to have a vision and mission.
Productivity can be viewed from different perspectives. We have the spiritual, physical and social aspects of productivity. In spiritual productivity we engage in establishing a solid connection with our maker, we engage in all activities that will earn us good in this world and the afterlife. Whereas the physical aspect of productivity involves having a healthy lifestyle, this could range from a healthy diet, beneficial sleep and healthy workout routine. The social aspect of productivity focuses on our relationships and our roles in community building.
Furthermore productivity is associated with the mindset. Instead of hovering around negative energy and thoughts one should direct their thoughts to positivity. The mindset of a person has a huge impact on the life as a whole. We often tend to belittle ourselves as humans, we don’t see ourselves as being enough. Once we accept that we are capable of doing anything, then we can start to see our lives take the productive turn.
Unquestionably productivity comes with self discipline. It involves putting down certain rules and regulations for ourselves. It also goes hand in hand with commitment and consistency. These are qualities that aren’t easy to achieve, however, with patience and perseverance they become embeded in our character.
Productivity helps bring out the best in us.There are different ways to view productivity, nevertheless, we should engage ourselves to be productive not busy.
