Leadership Is Not About Putting Yourself Down

If you are a leader or wish to become one, you need to understand this.

Leadership is a big word with a big meaning. We all know it’s about service and helping others. We expect leaders to be heroes or saviors. We all want leadership. But here are some things that we should understand about leadership. It’s important for all of us, whether we are leaders or not. First of all, we should know that leadership is not about putting ourselves down to helping others go up. It’s not about destroying ourselves to build others. It’s also not about putting others down to stand for ourselves or about destroying others to build ourselves.

Leadership, leading, leader, the meaning of these words is NOT that you should burn yourself, destroy your physical and mental health, or sacrifice your family to help people under your charge. Leadership is about balance. Leaders should take care of themselves too. It doesn’t mean they should become self-centered or not help and support their people. Leadership means you understand that it’s not just about others, it’s also not just about yourself. It’s about and for both.

Leadership doesn’t mean just leading others, it’s means leading yourself too. You cannot love others by hating yourself. Even if you do, you destroy yourself during the process. Similarly, when leaders neglect themselves and just aim to build others, their destruction happens. As a result, they no longer remain in capacity to build anyone. Leadership is about balance. It’s knowing that for the success of people, you don’t need to fail yourself to make them look like “winners.”

Leadership doesn’t require you to break yourself so that people can use your pieces and make things. Leadership requires you to work on yourself as much as you want to work on and for your people.
