It is now less than 2 days before 2019.

This means that all the trailers I’m covering below, will all be released within the next 12 months.

Damn, that’s fast.

(Also, I finally ran out of trailers, so this week there’s only 4. Enjoy!)

1. Teen Spirit (2019)

What is this movie about?

Based on an original screenplay written (and directed) by actor Max Minghella (from The Handmaid’s Tale), this film is a musical drama that features music by a slew of musicians:

“…it was announced that the film would feature performances of and music written by Robyn, Ellie Goulding, Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Tegan & Sara, Annie Lennox, Orbital, Alice Deejay, The Undertones, Major Lazer, Grimes, Whigfield, and Sigrid, and a original song “Wildflowers” written by Carly Rae Jepsen and produced by Jack Antonoff.” — Source

What’s the trailer saying, if I can’t be bothered to watch it?

It’s saying that we should start adding Elle Fanning to the list of actresses this year who have tackled singer roles in movies.

She stars as Violet, a teenager who wants to get out of her small town and become a pop star. The trailer features her singing to Robyn’s ‘Dancing on my Own’, and impressing crowds with her rendition.

Why the hell should you care about this?

Elle Fanning is an actress I’ve been keeping my eye on; she has a lot of range and seems to genuinely enjoy (and is excited by) her roles.

Plus, pop music drama? I’m in!

2. Us (2019)

What is this movie about?

Us is the anticipated follow-up from director Jordan Peele after his acclaimed debut Get Out was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

The plot of this film was shrouded in mystery until the trailer dropped, but it’s also meant to be an original horror film, just like Get Out.

What’s the trailer saying, if I can’t be bothered to watch it?

The trailer follows Black Panther co-stars Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke as the parents of a family, who go for a beachside vacation with their friends. During that time, their son wanders off, but comes back after they run around looking for him.

That night, a group of strangers arrive outside their house, and start terrorising them. However, the perpetrators’ faces are identical to their own…

Why the hell should you care about this?

I’ve loved Jordan Peele since his Key & Peele days, so I’m always going to support his stuff, even if they are horror movies that I can’t see.

3. Black Mirror: Bandersnatch

What is this movie about?

There were a bunch of rumours lately that said that Black Mirror was releasing a movie, and they were right.

It’s an interactive film, too, which makes it more interesting. What this means is that the viewer gets to choose the decisions that the main character makes, and that will affect the scenes going forward.

What’s the trailer saying, if I can’t be bothered to watch it?

The trailer hypes the fact that this is a Black Mirror Event, but then seems to downplay that in order to focus on the mystery aspect of the film.

The trailer shows Fionn Whitehead (from Dunkirk) as a programmer who adapts a fantasy novel called Bandersnatch into a game. As that is happening, he’s taking pills that seem to affect his perception of reality.

Other characters (including two played by Will Poulter and Asim Chaudhry) also appear in the trailer.

Why the hell should you care about this?

This trailer was released a day before the actual movie dropped, which means that the movie is already out! Go watch it now, and let me know which path you took!

4. The Last Laugh (2019)

What is this movie about?

A comedy film directed by Chicago filmmaker Greg Pritikin, this film stars Chevy Chase and Richard Dreyfuss as old friends who meet again.

What’s the trailer saying, if I can’t be bothered to watch it?

It shows Chevy Chase accompanied by a character played by Kate Miccuci, touring an old folks home of some sort. They then bump into his old friend, played by Dreyfuss, and then they reminisce about old times as comedians.

Why the hell should you care about this?

Honestly, I am not a Chevy Chase fan. His reputation precedes him.

However, I love Kate Miccuci, so I might just hate-watch this film to see how badly they treat her (she barely opens her mouth in this trailer, so I think she’s playing the ‘quiet woman caretaker’ role.)
