Merry Christmas in advance, everyone!

I can’t believe I’ve been doing this weekly piece for almost 3 months. It’s so much fun, and helpful for me as well. You see, I was always the type to only watch trailers at home, so oftentimes that meant I just plain forgot to watch them.

But let’s get to it!

1. Hellboy (2019)

What is this movie about?

First things first:

That’s not Ron Perlman and this film isn’t directed by Guillermo del Toro.

Instead, because the studio wouldn’t let GDT direct from his script for Hellboy 3, this is now a reboot of the Hellboy film series.

This time, David Harbor (Stranger Things) is in the titular role, and his ‘team’ includes Ian McShane (as Hellboy’s adoptive father), Sasha Lane (the solo woman on the team, unfortunately), and Daniel Dae Kim as Ben Daimio.

It’s directed by Neil Marshall, who has helmed a number of episodes of shows such as Game of Thrones, Westworld, Timeless, Constantine, and Lost in Space.

What’s the trailer saying, if I can’t be bothered to watch it?

It’s saying that this version of Hellboy is going to be much closer to comedy than the previous iterations.

The trailer focuses on a lot of verbal sparring and the exchange of wit, so…it’s definitely not GDT’s world anymore.

Why the hell should you care about this?

To be honest, I was hell-bent on hating this reboot, because I loved the originals and couldn’t imagine anyone else at the helm.

However, I do love Daniel Dae Kim and Ian McShane, and it seems like it’ll be a classic antihero-type film in the vein of Deadpool, which I did love.

2. Men in Black: International (2019)

What is this movie about?

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are out in this Men In Black spinoff; this time, our initial-ed agents are Agent M and Agent H, played by Thor: Ragnarok co-stars Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth.

Set out of the London base of the MIB branch, it follows them on a murder mystery.

What’s the trailer saying, if I can’t be bothered to watch it?

It’s saying that MIB is still one of the most fun franchises out there.

Hemsworth and Thompson put on the suits with ease, and both exude a suave-ness that keeps the trailer light, even when we know it’s going to be a huge action film.

Why the hell should you care about this?

Did I mention that the supporting cast includes Liam Neeson (as the head of the UK branch) and Emma Thompson, reprising her role as Agent O?

3. Greta (2019)

What is this movie about?

Starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Isabelle Huppert, this thriller centres on a young woman, played by the former, who gets drawn into a creepy, and obsessive relationship with the latter.

What’s the trailer saying, if I can’t be bothered to watch it?

It’s saying that being nice has its drawbacks.

The two of them meet because the former returns a lost handbag to the latter, and becomes close, in a mother-daughter type relationship. However, we find out that the latter has been leaving multiple copies of the handbag in order to see who would return them, only to obsessively stalk the young women when they inevitably leave.

Why the hell should you care about this?

To be honest, I’m not crazy about shows like this, that tread the line between horror and thriller, but I do like the actresses in this.

4. Where’d You Go, Bernadette (2019)

What is this movie about?

Based on a 2012 novel that spent a year on the New York Times Bestseller List, this film stars Cate Blanchett as the titular character, accompanied by Billy Crudup as her husband and Emma Nelson as her daughter.

It’s due to be released by Annapurna Pictures and is directed by Richard Linklater.

What’s the trailer saying, if I can’t be bothered to watch it?

It’s saying that Cate Blanchett has a bucketload of charm, regardless of whatever role she plays.

The trailer makes the film sound like a cute comedy, with Bernadette surrounded by her family, only for her to mysteriously disappear. The rest of the trailer then shows the quest that her family takes to find her.

Why the hell should you care about this?

It sounds like a fun romp, I have to say.

Cate Blanchett, Richard Linklater, coupled with a bouncy soundtrack?

I’m in.

5. The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part (2019)

What is this movie about?

This is the second trailer; we covered the first one a few weeks back here:

What’s the trailer saying, if I can’t be bothered to watch it?

This trailer gives us more details on this sequel, especially in terms of its setting, SPACE.

It shows Emmett getting trained by new character Rex (played also by Chris Pratt and modelled after his other characters) and learning about how space works, while Lucy and Co. (i.e. all the characters that got kidnapped) find out more about their kidnapper.

Why the hell should you care about this?

There’s a scene where Superman dances, and also another one where we see Green Lantern appear (to no one’s delight).
