15 weeks of doing this weekly round-up! That’s almost 4 months!

I don’t know how much longer I’m going to continue, but for now, I do appreciate watching all these trailers every week.

1. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)

What is this movie about?

The sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming and set after Avengers: End Game (which proves that Spider-Man comes back…somehow after what happened in Avengers: Infinity War), this movie is directed again by Jon Watts and features MCU stalwarts such as Samuel L. Jackson, Jon Favreau, and Cobie Smulders.

What’s the trailer saying, if I can’t be bothered to watch it?

It shows us the premise of the movie; basically, Peter Parker wants to be a kid again (maybe due to some Infinity War trauma), so he leaves his suit behind when he goes on a class trip to Europe.

Of course, shit happens, so he has to put on the suit again (provided by Happy Hogan), and go fight some Elementals. Along the way, Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal in his MCU debut) appears to help, but seems to be oddly friendly for a longtime Spider-Man villain…

Why the hell should you care about this?

I really enjoyed the first one, and honestly…I’m a MCU fan, so I’m going to watch this anyways.

2. John Wick: Chapter 3 (2019)

What is this movie about?

The third in the series of John Wick films, this film stars Keanu Reeves as the titular character, with a stellar supporting cast that includes Halle Berry, Ian McShane, Mark Dacascos, Laurence Fishburne, and more.

It continues to be directed by Chad Stahelski, with the screenplay written by Derek Kolstad.

What’s the trailer saying, if I can’t be bothered to watch it?

Continuing from the events of John Wick: Chapter 2, this film sees John on the run as he gets banished from every Continental service. The trailer shows the moment that he is formally banished, with a $14 million price tag on his head, and the motley team of hitmen that go after him.

However, he does find one person he trusts, who is Halle Berry’s Sofia.

Why the hell should you care about this?

The cast is freaking phenomenal, guys.

3. Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase (2019)

What is this movie about?

Based on the 1930 book of the same name, Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase stars Sophia Lillis (from 2017’s It), and is produced by Ellen DeGeneres, Jeff Kleeman, and Chip Diggins for Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

I assume that if it does well, it’s going to be the first of a series (because why not).

What’s the trailer saying, if I can’t be bothered to watch it?

Basically, the film is trying to update the famed teen detective Nancy Drew by putting grunge clothes, sneakers, and a skateboard on her.

The trailer shows Nancy as a new import to a quiet town, who gets drawn into a mystery featuring a ‘haunted’ house. She uses her smarts to figure out clues, and also attracts a group of female friends to get involved as well.

Why the hell should you care about this?

I’m honestly not crazy about this, because it doesn’t look anything like the original character (don’t bullshit me and say that smart girls don’t wear dresses), and it seems to be trying overly hard to be the perfect film (she’s told multiple times how smart she is and how proud her parents would be of her, etc).

4. The Hummingbird Project (2019)

What is this movie about?

Kim Nguyen is a Canadian film director and screenwriter of films such as War Witch (2012) and Eye on Juliet (2017). He goes Hollywood with this film starring Jesse Eisenberg, Alexander Skarsgård, Salma Hayek, and Michael Mando.

What’s the trailer saying, if I can’t be bothered to watch it?

The premise of this film, according to the trailer, seems to be: two brothers want to build a fibre broadband line across the US in order to receive stock market updates seconds earlier than other people. This can have huge implications since a one-second advantage could make them millions of dollars.

Of course, the Goliath to this David is a company run by Salma Hayek’s character, who finds out about the plan and tries to build an even faster line. Cue one-upping and lots of hijinks.

Why the hell should you care about this?

I really enjoy that the premise doesn’t seem to be ‘will they build it?’; instead, we know they build it. The tension instead arises as the film pits the two sides against each other as they both try to build faster.

5. High Life (2019)

What is this movie about?

Acclaimed French director Claire Denis takes on her first English-language film in this thriller starring Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche, André Benjamin (i.e. André 3000!) and Mia Goth.

According to the Wikipedia page, “ It focuses on a group of criminals who are tricked into believing they will be freed if they participate in a mission to travel on a spaceship towards a black hole to find an alternate energy source while being sexually experimented on by the scientists on board.”

What’s the trailer saying, if I can’t be bothered to watch it?

It shows Pattinson’s character on board a spaceship with his daughter, as he hangs out (?) with a fellow passenger. You find out that they’re criminals, and they share the space with a group of scientists who are experimenting on them.

Why the hell should you care about this?

The film has been highly rated by critics on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, so it should be, at the very least, an intriguing film to watch.
