DRSS : First steps

Story: weather and choosing clothes? Uhh

Have you ever left home and understood that you chose the wrong clothes? Maybe you’ve seen a man or a woman on the streets who dressed something unacceptable for the current weather. I mean their clothes too cold or too warm. For me, it happens every day. Even if I see a forecast or look at the thermometer, it doesn’t help me.

And I have a good example about it. Several years ago I had to go to my sister. It was a middle of November, I had awoken early in the morning and seen bright Sun through the window. “Such a good weather, it should be warm”, I thought. And what I did next defies logic. I didn’t look at the thermometer or the forecast. I just dressed up in my oxford shirt, jeans, shoes and left home. I didn’t even make 2 steps before I realized my mistake. It was 2℃. It was November.

Since then I always see the forecast. But it doesn’t always help. It would be good if the weather stays the same for days so I have time to get used to it. Otherwise, I have a great dilemma.

Present days

After all - I am a software developer. I decided to try formalize weather conditions and make a mobile app that helps people like me. I started creating the app before I got a full-time job. I already have a prototype, with if-else logic, without UI and continue thinking about use-cases.

The first big problem is how different people feel the same weather very differently. And the second big problem is climatic zones. For example, in Siberia people don’t feel the frost as they do in Moscow region. This is only one example and the Earth has many more climatic conditions. Mountains, seas, rivers, sands and many more with different feelings of weather. I decided to keep current business-logic of advising, just simple if-else. May be in the future I will add a crowd-sourced mechanism like Google Translate.

MVP

What should I do for the MVP?

First, it will be an iOS application (sorry, Android users)

  • Base logic, for choosing weather (almost done)
  • Choosing city - by the current coordinates
  • Add some graphics

It looks so simple, but by my experience tell me it will have pitfalls.

Plans for February

Nothing. Really. Because I was invited to 7 weeks internship at one of the best mobile development companies and it continued till beginning of March. So, I expect to gain new knowledge that will help me with this project. But in March I will continue to work, I swear.

Plans for the nearest future

Create a web page for application and email collection

Make or design the UI and UX

And release the app.

So, 💚 my post and follow us One Side Project Challenge. My next project updated would be posted on March 12th.
