Finding a home helper just isn’t the same as say, buying a new pair of headphones. If you wanted to buy a pair of headphones, you’d have the option of asking your friends, looking for online reviews, comparing options and prices. Finding a good helper you can trust is a different ball game however, because they’re people, not products.

When homeowners are looking for home helpers, they generally try to find lobangs first. They’ll ask a friend over dinner or trawl through a forum to get contacts from people who have had good experiences with helpers they work with.

What is a Lobang? Lobang is a Malay word for ‘hole’. It also colloquially means “Opportunity”

What makes a lobang useful or attractive? Here are a few reasons:

Free or Cheap

Singaporeans don’t like to pay extra for things and lobangs usually trade exclusively on social capital to refer people.

Upside

Lobangs provide opportunities that have high potential upside. Which means that the benefits of taking the opportunity are much higher than the cost.

Trust in the Lobang

Because It’s natural for human beings to value the opinions of friends or people of expertise.
