Finding the lost tree

The first legs leaving the capsule and touching the rocky ground of the planet were from an adventurous dog. Four paws, all excited to wander this unknown land. The following legs belonged to Sara, a human from a distant planet called Earth. Finally, the last ones were of Bob Snyder, the captain of the team.

The two scientists lumbered down the walkway of the landing pad, carrying heavy bags and equipment. They cast their eyes to the horizon, catching sight of the looming structure. From the plain where they landed, they could see steep red towers of rocks. Sara did not expect to encounter a mesa-like landscape here. From the data gathered by the space probe, the planet was supposed to be covered with luxuriant vegetation. But it was desertic.

“I don’t like the look of this,” Sara exclaimed. “It would be dangerous for us to enter this landscape so ill-prepared. Look at our equipment.”

“We must carry through with our mission,” Bob denied with a hard look on his face. “This also means we won’t have to carry all of our stuff. You like to travel light, don’t you?”

“I don’t mind traveling light. Let’s get to the location and hope to find what we are here for,” said Sara with doubt in her tone.

“Alright, let’s only take the water, food, and our tent, and let’s get going.” Bob released a sharp whistle. “Lead…
