This time this column brings you a magnificent display of school dinners. Colourful like a Hockney painting. Honestly, is there a better way to greet a visitor like me, pannier hoisted upon my back, track pump in one hand and tools bag in the other one, than with a plate of steaming curry?

No, there isn’t.

School dinners in the UK have changed for the better. Add to that the cold snap that’s been sweeping through the country these last few days and the combinations in my photos will start making sense. To quote Bob (Marley, not Dylan), “Only food dem belly fill”. My belly, Bob, my belly.

That’s how we get to that curry with pesto and pasta.Or noodles with coleslaw, and fish fingers with chicken and noodles.

Another sight that warmed the cockles of my heart: food recycling. The hot dinner from the day before turned into a cold plate in the salad bar (yes, many schools boast salad bars nowadays. And no, they’re not the posh ones).
