One Team Gov in Wales has lift-off!

On 29 June I attended the very first One Team Gov event in London. I didn’t know what to expect, other than being excited at the prospect of spending the day with people from digital and policy, who felt passionate about transforming government. I wasn’t disappointed. Kit was as inspiring as always and Claire Moriarty’s speech in particular was just what I’d been waiting to hear — “it’s all about the 4 Cs — Conversations, Cross-fertilisation, making Connections and Celebrating Change agents” – is that 5?

My terrible doodles of Claire Moriarty’s speech

I came home feeling pumped for the One Team Gov movement, and I’m sure people in my department were sick of hearing me talk about it! My only slight reservation about the day was that it was a teeny bit more London-centric than I’d have liked. But you have to start somewhere.

So imagine how excited I was to hear there were more local meet ups happening in Scotland and North England, and the more I spoke to people in and around Cardiff, the more I drummed up support for a OneTeamGov event in Wales. There are enough government departments based in South Wales alone — Companies House, IPO, DVLA, ONS, HMRC, Welsh Government — that I knew there would be appetite from the Welsh contingent. We’re all facing the same difficulties, and trying to solve similar problems; so why not get together and help each other out?

We held our first meet-up last week and I was delighted with the progress we made in less than an hour. The small team are super enthusiastic and up for organising a larger unconference style event in Cardiff. Don’t get me wrong though, I love travelling to London, and I’m incredibly grateful that the first event was held there. It really helped to set the scene. I’m excited at the prospect of the unconference we’re holding in Wales, as well as all the wider conversations and meet-ups we will continue to have.

How can you get involved?
