Overwhelming Feelings, Lunch at Spark and American Thanksgiving

Date #744 — Saturday, November 28th, 2015

B: My Mom planned to have everyone over for American Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday because of schedules and my little sister having to travel from Ottawa. I love that we get to celebrate two Thanksgivings every year (Canadian and American).

This would also be the first Thanksgiving of the new baby, which was also awesome. A and I didn’t eat and left as early as we could to get maximum baby time.

Being hungry can already lead to some strained emotions (you’ve been hangry before right?). Add that with feelings of a new baby and anxieties about being around my family and you’ve got a deadly combination. I stopped outside our house and had this overwhelming feeling like I couldn’t move. A was really supportive and helped me feel safe. I half-jokingly stopped my feat and said, “I feel really overwhelmed and I don’t know why!” A asked, “do you feel better?” and I honestly did. Saying my feelings out loud and shaking off some physical energy can really help defuse things. I then said, “I really need to eat.”

We stopped at this local café Spark, who’s food I’ve always wanted to try. I got two vegetarian, mushroom tacos that were completely amazing!! A got this unreal grilled cheese and avocado sandwich. It was all so good. We ate at the train station and I talked more about how I was still feeling so many different things.

Ultimately everything went really well. At my parents’ we hung out and ate and had a really nice time. My parents had another engagement, so by the evening it was just Me, A, my siblings, the baby, and my sister’s partner. That time was extra special and really allowed us all to bond a bit more.

A: We stopped at Spark for lunch before jumping on the train to Whitby! It was delicious and we indulged in photographs of our food like any cool kids waiting for a train, haha.

Baby’s first holiday was so much fun because B’s younger sis came for a visit and the house was full of love! I love being invited and included and I am so happy that I feel like a part of their family, even though I’m totally from another world. :P

Three really fun and funny memories happened on this day:

1. I have a beer blog and so I was photographing each beer I drank. B’s dad saw me and goes, “Did you run out of things to photograph???” It was a funny moment, because I was so focused.

2. We watched a million Christmas movies but watching Home Alone with B’s sister’s partner was the best thing. He was howling at all the jokes, trying to catch his breath. It made me so happy.

3. Baby’s first bath! Everyone was a little tense but it went well and I got some great photos of baby crying. :O)
