‘Community-led Product Development’ is not just some fancy phrase that we say to ‘sound cool’ but it’s something that we as a project truly embody every step of the way.

Continue reading the entire blog to see exactly how we do it and have prioritized community as our #1.

Building in public

One of the biggest paradigm shifts in Web3 is this idea of community-first.

While companies like Figma, Notion etc from the Web2 world have also strong communities, it was always considered a good-to-have rather than a must-have.

With decentralized protocols, it’s almost like you’re a public company since Day 1.

It’s common news that many private companies with great valuations, end up crashing in the public markets. Getting the public to believe in you and invest in you is a tough nut to crack.

But done right, it provides a lot of benefits which make it every but worth it.

Customer Development

Customer development is a framework that is used to determine whether or not a product fulfills a need or needs of the customer. It is part of the lean startup concept.

Startups have many untested hypotheses.
Experiments allow startup to test their hypotheses quickly and gather feedback and assess whether or not we should go ahead.

Having a community is customer development on steroids.

Every Friday we have a community ritual called #FridayYouSay

The team shares the ideas that they are considering and ask the community to share their feedback through polls.

After considering the feedback, we share the results with the community within the next few days and get started with implementing immediately.

For eg: Winning Streak was an idea that came out of this process.

Our community has helped us with all sorts of inputs including next game ideas.

On Tuesdays, we also have a #TeamTuesday session where different members from within the team — Art & Design, Product, Marketing etc interact with the entire community live in voice rooms.

These sessions have really high turnouts with members eager to get sneak peeks and get their queries answered.

We also a dedicated space within the community called #product-updates where real-time announcements are made including if there’s some downtime. It’s about being completely transparent with our stakeholders.

Product Launch

One of the biggest reasons startups fail is because they do not get initial traction. Imagine spending months to years, toiling away, burning the midnight oil to build a team and product — just to take it to the market and find out that no one is there to use it.

Sometimes it’s not even that there isn’t a need for a product, but that every customer is looking for some form of social proof before aping in.

“I don’t want to be the first one to buy. I’m not a guinea pig.”

In the startup world, this is called the Chicken and Egg cold-start problem.

Which came first? Or rather, who’s going to go first?

Our community gave us an initial set of customers that bought into the idea even before the product was released.

It was what enabled us to sell out so quickly. Once we launched the platform too, we had an exodus of initial players who were eagerly waiting behind a waitlist.

News, updates & global trends

Although we’re a global community, most of the team is based out of India’s startup and tech capital — Bangalore.

But if you join our community, you’ll notice a significant number of members from across the globe like the Philippines, Switzerland, Russia, Nigeria, Indonesia and more.

We’ve also collaborated with projects and key opinion leaders/influencers across boundaries.

How is this possible?

The answer again, is community.

We’ve built dedicated subsections within the community for different geographies.

We started by having a single channel and as demand grew, we sectioned off parts of the community with growing ways to independently interact.

Our global community has always been very helpful in sharing their feedback and suggestions.

In essence, it makes us stand true to our name — One World Nation.
