I think the difference between happiness and joy is that the first is more individual and the second is potentially more than that.

I used to see happiness as the fleeting one and joy as the lasting one, but on reflection, both of them can be fleeting.

I think what’s special about joy is that it exists in you and radiates outward when your joy leads you to make others happy or joyful. Happiness kind of stays in place, mostly.
