If you aren’t with me, you must be against me. I see this kind of rhetoric all the time and I gotta say, I’m not a fan. I understand the point of why it’s said, I just find it to be a really divisive thing to say. It can alienate and even push people away from your point of view.

You see, my biggest issue is the idea that if you aren’t actively helping a cause, you must be against said cause. This is nonsense! We all have causes that we’re passionate about, often at least a few. There’s only so much time in a day for all of us though, right?

Your cause is important, I’m sure but that doesn’t mean I’m your enemy because I’m not actively helping you. A lot of people could be considered your allies simply because they won’t get in your way.
