It occurred to me that maybe some parents might be interested in learning how I am (and other parents are) able to work from home as a freelance writer (among other things), and if it’s right for them, follow the path.

I worked as a comedian and musician for a long time (and still do this kind of work regularly), so writing isn’t way outside of my wheelhouse. But even if you’re not the most amazing writer in the world, if it’s something you’re passionate about, you can still do it. Here’s how:

Start small

Suss out a handful of smaller blogs and websites whose content you appreciate. Don’t turn your nose up at websites that don’t pay much or at all, because the purpose at first is to simply get published and establish yourself as someone who writes about parenting.

Follow the rules

Read their submission links if they have one, which may tell you how many words they’re looking for pieces to be, of themes they like to publish. Send them some pitches or fully written pieces that adhere to their writing guidelines.

Keep going

If you get rejected, try other places. There are countless parenting publications worldwide. You can even start your own publication here on…
