The 2024 Polkadot Hackathon, co-hosted by the OneBlock+ community and Polkadot, is now open for registration! Since its inception, the hackathon has garnered significant attention and participation from developers worldwide. To ensure that participating projects receive professional, fair, and diverse feedback, the organizers have assembled the 2024 Polkadot Hackathon Judge Panel. The hackathon officially kicked off in Singapore and Bangkok on July 11. The Singapore Demo Day will take place offline on September 17 (code submission deadline: August 28, 12:00 PM UTC+8), and the Bangkok Demo Day will be held on November 14 (code submission deadline: October 16, 12:00 PM UTC+8).

🛬 Judge Panel Revealed

This year’s Polkadot Hackathon (Singapore) will feature a judging panel composed of 16 industry experts, who will provide professional, multidimensional, and impartial evaluations of the entries. Here’s an introduction to the judging team:

🔸 Rae|APAC investor relations at Parity

Rae currently manages APAC investor relations at Parity. She was previously Head of Asia at Parity. Prior to that, she spent some time in the VC space and in the consulting industry.

🔸 Jun Zhou|Developer Relations Engineer at PaperMoon

Zhou Jun has extensive development experience in the fields of embedded, server, and big data. He started to get involved in Ethereum in 2017, and began to learn Substrate and develop open source projects in 2019. He is currently committed to the research and development and promotion of Substrate.

🔸 kaichao|Substrate Community Developer

Kaichao has many years of experience in Web2 application development, both front-end and back-end. In 2016, he gained an in-depth understanding of the decentralized technology stack. In 2019, he came into contact with Substrate, which strengthened his determination to invest in the Web3 wave. At the same time, he maintains the Zhihu column “Substrate Blockchain Development”, hoping to convey complex technical concepts to more developers in an easy-to-understand way.

🔸 Ellie|HashKey HSK Eco Head

Ellie is focused on driving innovation and growth in the Web3 space, especially Chains and Infra. Ellie’s work ranges from in-depth market analysis to practical ecosystem development. As a Web3 builder and enthusiast, Ellie is passionate about the transformative potential of blockchain technology and decentralized systems.

🔸 Jiawei Zhu|Principal at IOSG Ventures

Jiawei Zhu has been an active participant in the cryptocurrency space since 2018. He focuses primarily on the infrastructure space, which includes broad areas such as (re)staking, MEV and intent, and modular blockchain verticals. During his tenure at IOSG Ventures, Jiawei played a leading role in the investment of several well-known projects. These include EigenLayer, Flashbots, Babylon, Kiln, and others.

🔸 Max Rebol|Harbour Industrial Capital CEO

Max Rebol is CEO and Managing Partner of Harbour Industrial Capital, a private Polkadot-focused VC fund. He was voted Polkadot Head Ambassador in 2024, and in this capacity represents Polkadot at many different global conferences and events. Max is also co-founder of PolkaPort East, a HK based growth and marketing initiative for Polkadot, supported by the Decentralised Futures Program or the Web3 Foundation.

🔸 Yukun Hao|Senior Director of Wanxiang Blockchain Labs

Yukun Hao is an ISO TC307 blockchain standard writing expert, a standing member of the CCF blockchain committee, and a visiting researcher at Imperial College London. He was the Secretary-General of the IEEE Computer Society Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Committee. In 2019, he began to be responsible for the Wanxiang blockchain ecosystem incubation. Since 2020, he has cooperated with PolkaDot in Web3 Bootcamps for three consecutive years, incubating more than 50 projects in total. In 2023, he launched the Web3.0 innovation incubation platform Future3 Campus, covering tracks such as Massive Adoption, DePIN, and AI, and incubating more than 40 projects.

🔸 Susan Han|Co-founder & CEO of Athena Ventures and HiBlock Accelerator

Susan Han Prior to joining Athena Ventures, she specialized in macroeconomic research at a leading securities firm in Hong Kong. She is excited to be in the venture capital space and to work with passionate entrepreneurs to develop cutting-edge technologies that have a positive impact on society.

🔸 Tin Chung|DevRel Lead of OpenGuild

Tin Chung is a PBA graduate at Singapore Cohort (Wave 5) and Dev Rel Lead at OpenGuild / Polkadot SEA with a focus on preparing technical workshop content, hosting a monthly Hackathon at OpenGuild, in charge of all the technical development. Tin was also a Rust Mentor at Vietnam Biggest Hackathon organized by ZKP Labs and GM Vietnam on behalf of Polkadot.He has experience working as a software engineer in multiple L1 blockchains, from Ethereum and Solana to Lightning Network L2 solutions on the Bitcoin blockchain, Tin is a former Coin98 Wallet engineer — one of the biggest wallet in SEA market with 10M+ users and ex-lead engineer at Snowflake — a multi-sig wallet with total 50M+ TVL at peak on Solana.

🔸 Yaxun|Founder of Oneblock+

Representative of the second phase of the Web3 Foundation DV program. OneBlock+ is the world’s leading Substrate developer community. Xiaojie Pang has served as a member of the Polkadot & Kusama dual council and the first representative of the Web3 Foundation DV program.

🔸 Brian Wu|Crust core dev

Brian is a Core Developer at Crust Network, dedicated to optimizing and enhancing the performance of the Crust blockchain. He brings years of experience in programming and blockchain technology to his role.

🔸 Peter Volynsky|Gear Foundation CTO

Peter Volynsky has broad experience in product development, product management, and technical leadership in multiple areas, including business applications development for project and business process management, system architecture, cross platform development environment & processes, web & mobile apps, operating systems, virtualization and Cloud (SaaS, IaaS, PaaS).

🔸 Tyrone|Bifrost Council Member

Council & Fellowship & DevRel member of Bifrost.

🔸 Kiana KK|Partner of BGA & Moledao

KK is key- contributor of Moledao and Blockchain for Good alliance, focusing on sourcing blockchain projects aimed at real-world sustainable development, and encouraging more builders to become aware of this area through global hackathon track collaboration.

🔸 Nicolas Martin Hussein|Developer Relations Engineer at PaperMoon

Nicolas works at Papermoon as a DevRel Engineer, where he helps developers get involved with tech in the Polkadot ecosystem. With a degree in Computer Science Engineering, he has a passion for software development and research. Nicolas is experienced in building Dapps and full-stack applications. He graduated from PBA (2nd wave) and has a keen interest in blockchain technology and its potential applications.

🔸 Alberto Viera|Core Contributor at Moonbeam

Alberto Viera is the founder of PaperMoon, a developer relations as a service company, and is a core contributor to Moonbeam and Tanssi. Despite being a Mechanical Engineer from Venezuela with a Ph.D. in Internal Combustion Engines, you might ask yourself, “What is this guy doing here?” Alberto has been passionate about crypto since late 2013 and switched full-time to crypto in January 2020. As the saying goes, “Do what you love, and you won’t have to work a day in your life.

🛠️ Mentorship

As key leaders of the 2024 Polkadot Hackathon, frontline industry experts will provide participants with technical inspiration and practical experience, helping developers create potential projects from scratch. Continuing the special sessions from the previous hackathon, this year’s event will again feature the “Mentor Q&A” segment (online Q&A session: August 20–21, project group online guidance: August 20–28). Judges from this year’s panel, including Jun Zhou, Kaichao, Xiaojie Pang, Yukun Hao, Ellie, and Susan Han, will serve as Q&A mentors, safeguarding your hackathon journey! Participation Rules

  1. Qualification: The project must create a folder in the Parity Hackathon GitHub Projects (https://github.com/OneBlockPlus/polkadot-hackathon-2024) and provide a brief project introduction.
  2. Meeting Appointment: Mentors will be randomly matched with project teams based on the status of GitHub submissions and the language preferences of team members, and meeting times will be scheduled.

The online meeting content is divided into two sessions:

Session 1: Understanding the Project

  1. Basic project introduction
  2. Features planned to be completed during the hackathon
  3. Technology stack used
  4. Any technical obstacles
  5. Product and market goals
  6. Long-term project and product planning
  7. Current need for financial support
  8. Any fundraising plans

Session 2: Mentor Q&A and Suggestions

9. What help do you expect from the judges?

10. Any other questions about the hackathon or evaluations of the Polkadot ecosystem?
