Remember the story of Brymo- the ‘Ara’ crooner, who after winning our hearts with his dazzling voice and very local style of delivery had a major fall out with his record label on breach of contract and promises unfulfilled.

More recently also, Five star music, a music record label also had a spat with one of its signees namely Harrysong His contract with the record label was due to expire in January 2017 but he floated his own record label in November 2016 which sparked up lawsuits and much disheartening news.

Wesley Snipes a veteran in the American movie industry, in 2008, was sentenced to three years in prison for willful failure to file federal income tax returns. This was after a lot of lawsuits and court sessions.

Finally, let’s consider this twist- In 2012, the nigerian entertainment industry experienced a divorce that rocked it to its very core. This is no other than the split between ace producer Don Jazzy and legendary music artiste Dbanj. It was such an emotional time for the industry. Here’s the mind boggling piece many of us missed- there was no lawsuit or court case. Sure it was a bitter split but it seems like it was settled without much ado.

Well, with all these stories, it is refreshing to know we have those who are doing it right. The take out from these stories however, is that there are simple things that were overlooked that came back to haunt these artistes. Little things like terms stated in their contracts, conditions and requirements for exits, royalties, remuneration, taxes to say a few.
