ONEm plans expansion in Africa
ONEm Communication plans to expand in Africa through licensing and local partnerships, with the aim of spreading advanced services to rural Africa. CEO Christopher Richardson said Africa is a very big and diverse continent, so reaching all rural areas needs significant funding and raises formidable technical challenges. Richardson said ONEm utilises existing infrastructure to provide services to rural communities.
He said ONEm’s service lets applications interact with mobiles without the internet. It transforms ordinary voice and SMS into interactive tools. ONEm’s framework lets developers create interactive applications for content and services that are relevant in the local market. Richardson said ONEm has also developed a blockchain product accessible over SMS to support unique applications. For example, for the first time people will be able to have a history of transactions via SMS, which will improve financial inclusion.
