Supply:
55
Mint Cost: 77 USDC
Launch Time: 14th April, 3am UTC

Department 77 will be launching its first set of Ships on OnePlanet this Tuesday!

The ships can carry cargo, passengers, weapons, and fuel, ranging from Class A to C for personal use (with A being the smallest). Meanwhile, Class M ships are multi-crew ships that allow you to hire droids from other bureaus to fill different positions onboard. This means you can send multi-crew ships on highly lucrative missions and split the profits with the hired crew.

But wait… What are droids? Why do I need to complete missions? I’m here to answer all your questions!

In this article below, I will cover the following topics:

  • What is Department 77?
  • What can you do with Department 77 NFTs?
  • Why do their new ships launching on OnePlanet matter?
  • Getting started with their Free-To-Play Shadow Fleet Game

What is Department 77❓

Department 77 is a multi-chain web3 strategy game where you can train droid NFTs, send them on missions, and use the rewards to mint new NFTs.

The lore was designed to set players 300 years in the future, where players assume the role of lowly middle managers within Black Ocean’s internal “security” division through bureaus. Tasked with employing and training droids for assignments such as assassinations, sabotage, and industrial espionage, players must navigate complex allegiances and shifting loyalties in a world where nothing is as it seems. Every decision made in the game has the potential to impact the game world, giving players the power to shape their own destinies.

What sets Department 77 apart from other web3 NFT projects is that it is already fully operational, even though it’s still in alpha. With just one of their coveted bounty hunter NFTs, players can jump right into the action and start playing immediately across blockchains like Terra, Secret Network, and Polygon. The game boasts an immersive user experience, with a complete gameplay loop that involves training droids, sending them on missions to earn in-game currency, and even minting custom shop droids with the rewards earned.

But that’s not all! Department 77 also offers its very own free-to-play Shadow Fleet TCG minigame, which we will dive into in the later part of the article.

What can you do with the Department 77 NFTs? 🖼️

Previously I mentioned bounty hunter NFTs… well these are the droids I’m talking about!

There are three types: Deus MK1, Mono MK1, and Echo MK1.

  • Deus MK1 excels in rescue missions.
  • Mono MK1 is an assassin model ideal for kill missions.
  • Echo MK1 is designed for access to highly lucrative data broker missions.

The main gameplay mechanic in Department 77 revolves around overseeing the management of droids at your bureau. Think of it as bounty missions or quests, where your droid automatically performs tasks and reports back to you with progress. Upon completing tasks, you are rewarded with loot and aKILO (₭), the in-game currency used for everything — from buying items at vendors to ordering custom shop droids.

Although not obligatory, training your droids can enhance your chances of mission success. Training is time-based and entails enrolling in training programs, typically comprised of 12 or 24 modules. Each successive module requires an additional hour for completion, e.g., module 1 takes one hour, module 2 takes two hours, and so forth, though this may vary by program.

It is important to note that while your droid is undergoing training, it will be unable to engage in other activities, including missions, hence the need to carefully select your training time.

Why do their new ships launching on OnePlanet matter? 🖼️

The ships in Department 77 will bring in lucrative mission opportunities, customization options, and also a new multi-crew capability that allows for cooperative multiplayer gameplay and extra income generation!

They will be available in four different sizes:

Class A — Small personal ship
Class B — Medium personal ship
Class C — Large personal ship
Class M — Huge multi-crew ship***

Personal ships, classified as Class A, B, and C, can be equipped for one of your droids, who will use it for travel and ship-specific missions. On the other hand, multi-crew ships, classified as Class M, work differently. Class M ships allow you to hire droids from other bureaus to fill various positions onboard, such as Pilot, Co-Pilot, Navigator, Chief Engineer, and Second Engineer. Once the crew is hired, you can send the multi-crew ship on highly lucrative missions and share the profits with the crew.

Within Class A, B, and C, there are three ship types: Gunship, Freighter, and Transport. The max acceleration, cargo space, and fuel capacity are randomized within suitable ranges for each ship type. Larger ships have a greater capacity for cargo, passengers, weapons, and fuel.

Additionally, there are eight different colors available: Stealth Grey (common), Wartime Yellow, Eggshell White, Imperial Green, Raw Alloy, Blood Red, Midnight Blue, and Royal Purple (super rare).

Getting started with their Free-To-Play Shadow Fleet Game 🃏

Last but not least, introducing Shadow Fleet!

Shadow Fleet is a free-to-play collectible card game that does not require NFTs, and it allows you to engage in battles against other bureau operators. You can select your preferred league mode, and set up your deck manager accordingly.

The Department 77 team has made significant progress since their Terra days. Despite only being in Alpha, they have shipped out a lot of features and listened greatly to their players’ feedback.

If anyone is interested in partnering with them, feel free to reach out to our friendly Polygon local friends through DM. In the meantime, good luck with obtaining multi-crew ships, as the chances of drawing one in the random box are only 11%!
