OneRelief platform turns smartphone users into global citizens and gets funds where they’re needed.

WASHINGTON D.C., January 18, 2019 — OneRelief, the micro-donations aggregator platform, has launched its beta version, providing relief to Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.

When natural and man-made disasters strike, time is critical and aid workers need funds quickly. Social media is an important tool, which allows people to act quickly to make micro-donations and raise large sums of money within hours. This can provide relief agencies on the ground to focus on their mission and give them the financial resources to immediately intervene and give life-saving assistance, even before international aid arrives. This can be as simple as one million Instagram users donating one dollar each as soon as news breaks.

OneRelief aggregates these payments and selects up to three certified relief organisations to receive donations, ensuring that funds reach the right hands to help affected communities. These organizations operate consistently in the affected area and can intervene immediately through their ongoing presence. The platform allows donors to send funds from one to five dollars, providing them with social recognition rewards and badges to invite them to join the ‘relief warriors’ tribe. The platform also provides updates on disaster and relief efforts directly from the field.

Peter Prix, CEO and Founder, OneRelief, said, “The millennial generation is one of the most socially-conscious generations while being very active on social media. OneRelief means that, at the same time as posting support and sharing news around a crisis, users are able to take direct action and make donations that, while small, have a measurable impact. The ongoing crisis affecting Rohingya refugees is a perfect example of this and we’re pleased to be launching our platform to support such a worthy cause.”

The beta version of the platform is available at beta.one-relief.org
