Who We’re Reading — Adam Haslett
We first fell in love with Adam Haslett by reading his story collection You Are Not a Stranger Here. The wild use of point of view in the story “Notes to My Biographer” blew our minds.
It’s helpful to hear that such a virtuosic writer feels uncomfortable with the writing life: “It always seemed at least potentially temporary.” Maybe inherent discomfort with accepting you’re a writer is part of being one.
Haslett’s recent novel, Imagine Me Gone, shows continued virtuosity with both narrative perspective and human heartbreak. The family tale had us drowning in tears and nostalgia. If it sounds like your kind of book, we highly recommend this, “love story about a family.” This good of a novel can’t be rushed; it took Haslett 5 years to write.
