Jenny in full flow!

Here at One Team Gov Global we’ve put a lot of thought into making sure you get what you need on the day, which you can also take home to grow the One Team Gov community when more people see the logo around where you work. We’ve given a lot of thought to this to make sure it fits with our principles, and is sustainable.

We caught up with our “merch” lead Jenny Huynh, to find out more.

So Jenny, what can we look forward to at One Team Gov Global?
There are plenty of goodies this year! We have tried hard to source items that are environmentally friendly and actually useful. We’ve also made sure that we’re not offering anything frivolous: we’re very grateful for the money our sponsors have given, and wanted to make sure we’re using it sensibly. Hopefully they and you will be pleased with what we’re offering. There won’t be any branded pens or frisbees, but here is what you can expect:

The lanyard

The lanyard is a One Team Gov classic. I first sourced them for the 2017 unconference, where I wanted to find a lanyard that people would want to use after the event. We’ve continued to order from the same supplier, with spin-off teams ordering similar designs. We will definitely have extras; a great way microaction would be to take some back for your team and talk to them about some of the things you learned at One Team Gov Global.

We’ve also introduced some plain red lanyards for people who don’t want to be filmed, if that’s you then grab one from the volunteers when you arrive and register.

Cotton bags

Have you even been to a conference if you didn’t get a cotton tote? We’ve gone for natural cotton totes at our unconference. With all the other stuff you will receive, you need a sturdy bag. They are more useful and more importantly, reusable. Our One Team Gov ones are perfect for carrying any folders, your groceries, even as a gym bag. We are keen to give you something that will last and is functional to use.

Reusable coffee cups

Around 2.5 billion single-use coffee cups are used in the UK each year and, due to their plastic lining, it is hard and expensive to recycle them. It will take around 100 years for the plastic lining to break down.

To help cut down on waste, and to help you beat the “latte levy” (some coffee shops give you a discount for bringing in your own cup!), we are giving away reusable coffee cups. This will help reduce your landfill footprint by 99%.

Here’s a good video on single-use coffee cups: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGcd5aNBr4c

Designs for the coffee cups

Reusable water bottle

“A million a minute” - that’s how many plastic bottles are used worldwide. To make matters worse, around 5-13 tonnes of plastic leaks into the ocean: according to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, the ocean will contain more plastic than fish.

Excessive plastic use is also harming our health. Ghent University recently found that people who eat seafood are swallowing 11,000 pieces of plastic a year. Also, as offices usually have a water fountain and more cities are installing refill points, it’s a bit silly to spend money on bottled water.

At One Team Gov Global, we’ll include a small 300ml branded aluminium water bottle. This will help reduce the amount of plastic you consume and also keep your water cold! There will be water points in every room: we know it will be hot on the day!

Sticker Swap

And don’t forget sticker swap!! We’d love you to bring along your favourite stickers and take some of ours. They’d be perfect as something to take home, and a great memory of the day!

See you there!
