The Magusto is an autumn celebration held in November, especially on Saint Martin’s Day. In various regions of Portugal, friends and family gather to roast chestnuts, enjoy new wine or jeropiga, and celebrate the arrival of colder weather. With roots in rural communities, the Magusto symbolises togetherness and sharing.

Outdoors, chestnuts are traditionally roasted over a fire, and people playfully mark their faces with ash — a gesture of unity and joy.
More than just a gathering, the Magusto is an opportunity to embrace the warmth of the season’s flavours, whether with friends, family, or guests.
