Why you should be using Snapchat Geofilters

With over 7 Billion Snapchat Videos watched every day… Yes very day (That’s almost twice the amount that YouTube gets, and about the same amount of people on this planet), you can see that it’s becoming quite a big deal.

Gone are the days of 15-year-olds sendings selfies to their BFF’s. Well not quite, they still do. But as does Marketing, Influencers & more importantly… brands.

Now I’m not going to get into How to design and set up a Snapchat geofilter, there’s a great guide from everyone favourite hustler, Gary Vaynerchuk on that, which can be found here.

Snapchat geofilters can be used by brands in a variety of different ways. Firstly, the obvious Office Filter. A great example of this is Manchester Based Startup, Social Chain. Their Co-Founder/CEO & #OiConf 15 Speaker, Steve Bartlett posted this example on his facebook last month.

This is a great way to promote your business and ensure that visitors to the office, whether it be family and friends, or your next major client, can share your brand to their networks.

Pro Tip: Social Chains geofilter, albeit beautiful designed, lacks any call-to-action. How about offering a Snapchat Exclusive deal? 10% off if anyone screenshots this and tweets us it?…. just an idea!

The next way that geofilters could be used for a business is specific for an Event. A great example I saw recently was at Gary Vaynerchuk (yes him again) Book Launch event in London.

The event #Vaynerworld had its own Geofilter specific for that location, and in a certain time period. In fact, it had two. It allowed attendees to share photos and videos on their network, which in-turn, promotes the event itself.

This is a very powerful tool for encouraging people to post and share content around your event or brand, but also encouraged engagement and a strong community.

Personally for Online Influence, we will be rolling out Snapchat Filters on the 21st April 2016 for #OiConf 16. We will be playing around with different methods and see what works and doesn’t. We actively encourage you, our attendees to try these on the day and join in with the fun!

Lastly, growth hacking. Now this idea is completely stolen from Dean Oakes, the guy on the right of the previous image (Selfie with Gary Vaynerchuk). We pushed out his own Snapchat geo filter for the event simply saying his name and that for Gary to meet him.

Personally I think it’s genius. His plan worked and he managed to grab 10 minutes of Gary’s time for 1-to-1 next time they’re both in the same Location.

To wrap things up, Geofilters are both powerful and not-that-all explored yet. Take advantage of this new marketing tool that is being offered for literally pennies and explore. I listed 3 ways in which we believe it could be used for Brands, but there’s thousands.

Our Advice: Is to run with it now whilst it’s still young and unexplored.
