Using virtual appliances in Univention Corporate Server

Virtual app appliances are a distribution format recently introduced by Univention for installing Univention Corporate Server (UCS) with pre-configured components. Not a long time ago ONLYOFFICE, too, became available as an appliance: now in combo with ownCloud, while the Nextcloud-based option is expected in near future.

Appliances are virtual images that incorporate the apps, UCS management system and the UCS runtime environment. On the user side, they are extremely easy to install and configure: it only takes installing and running the virtualization platform and launching an image in it, going through a setup wizard with several local settings input.

The system then connects all the necessary components in the correct way itself, which means one responsible for the process doesn’t really have to be a deeply qualified IT expert.
