Digital is hiring!
Hi, I’m Amy and one of my jobs as Assistant Director of Ontario.ca, the government’s flagship website, is to uncover super-smart, wicked-skilled tech people, often in hard-to-find places, and invite them to work with us on a one-of-a-kind team that designs and builds the best online experience for people across this province.
I start with a simple, but fundamental question: do you care about making government services simpler, faster and better?
If you do, can I tell you about some jobs you may not know you want — yet?
Full disclosure: I never had “public service” as a career goal. I started my career in Silicon Valley, programming java for a B2B eCommerce startup. I was a technical Business Analyst for a leading web design agency in Alberta, working with some pretty cool clients. I started a retail business and wrote a few knitting books.
When my wife and I decided to move to Ontario, I applied for this “government job” a bit on a whim, not knowing it would be my dream job. I got hooked on the team, the passion to improve how Ontarians interact with their government.
That was 9 years ago.
What we do
Government made simpler, that’s Digital.
Consider Ontario.ca — our government’s core web platform — the heart of Digital. Literally millions of people visit the site each week to find information, learn about a new program or get something done with government. We are the front-door into government information and services — our goal is to greet you with respect, grace and simplicity.
To do this, we:
- work with teams across and outside government to unpack complex problems
- work fast and fun, in cutting-edge technologies
- have the stability of an enterprise organization with the agility (and sense of humour) of a start-up
- encourage team members to experiment, try new things, learn and prototype
- thrive on turning something that didn’t work into something that does.
Who we are
Our people hail from all walks of life. No two people are the same. We are technologists, programmers, philosophers, artists, anthropologists, designers, data nerds, bureaucracy hackers, cat lovers, dog lovers, big thinkers, rebels, dreamers, learners, parents and kids at heart.
I don’t mind bragging that our team is among the most clever, passionate and creative in the digital business. I’m incredibly proud of the work we do, every day.
Our values
A lot could be said about what makes a great digital team. Ours is:
- Deliberate about diversity — of people and perspective
- Self-organizing and collaborative
- Radically open
- Creative and expressive
- Unconventional
- Driven to seek, learn, do, help, create, build and execute
