Ontology Harbinger Interview Series: Andrei

This is an ongoing series featuring Ontology’s Harbingers. Harbingers are exceptional leaders that help Ontology grow its community and ecosystem, making it an ever-stronger blockchain, and decentralized identity and data leader.

In the eighth interview in this series, Ontology speaks with Andrei, administrator of our English and Romanian Communities.

1. How did you hear about Ontology? What drew you to Ontology?

I heard about Ontology in late December, 2017, on Neo’s Discord. Since I was a Neo supporter, I decided to take a deeper look at what Ontology wanted to do. Also, since I’m a philosopher, it seemed very intriguing to see such a philosophical concept as the name of the project.

2. What made you become a supporter of Ontology and a champion of its brand?

Basically, the concepts and goals described in their White Paper, especially the goal to build artificial trust using blockchain infrastructure. This goal, if it’s achieved, will have a great impact upon society.

3. What do you see as the key role of a Harbinger? What is your favorite thing about being a Harbinger?

I think the key role of a Harbinger is to promote the blockchain vision to those new to the subject and also to enlighten those already into blockchain about the importance of Ontology’s vision in this landscape. My favorite thing about being a Harbinger is being involved in creative discussions with like-minded people about technologies like decentralized identity.

4. Why is being part of the Ontology community important to you?

Being part of the Ontology community is important to me because I truly think blockchain technology is a key aspect in making the world a better place. Also, since Ontology focuses on fundamental issues like distributed trust and digital identity, I can witness first hand how these ideas are taking shape.

5. How is Ontology’s community different from other blockchain communities, is there anything that makes it stand out?

I would say that Ontology’s community is both friendly and helpful. Every time someone is in need of help, both admins and community members will put in the extra effort to make sure the issue is solved in the best way possible.

6. What do you use as your key channels for engagement with the Ontology community and why? Would you like to see any others?

The main channel I use is Telegram, followed by Discord. I prefer to interact with others in live discussions, therefore these platforms are appropriate.

7. Can you share a memorable experience or something you’ve learned from being a Harbinger? What advice would you give to someone looking to become a Harbinger?

The best memory I have is helping people who were panicking about losing their assets. Their happiness when the issue was solved gave me a great feeling.

The advice I would give to someone looking to become a Harbinger is to always do his best to try to understand the viewpoint of the other party, especially when what others are saying might trigger adverse reactions on your behalf.

8. How would you describe the Ontology community in three words?

Helpful, friendly, mature.

9. How do you think Ontology could expand its community going forward? What would you like to see more/less of? What kinds of things do you see community members do that you think help our community grow?

I think with the launching of EVM integration, Ontology should focus on expanding its tech community from the huge reservoir of Ethereum-based developers. The tech community was always a strong point for Ontology but having it expand also to those familiar with Solidity programming could greatly enhance the visibility of the Ontology ecosystem to the large Ethereum-based audience.

10. What do you see as the key milestones for Ontology and how can the community help with achieving these?

I think EVM integration is a key milestone which will establish seamless interoperability between Ontology and the Ethereum platform. Also, something that I would like to see in the future would be the ability to link ONT ID with Telegram and use that to whitelist group members. Telegram is the most used platform for crypto and is full of scams, so such a tool would help make it a safer space.
