Quick Guide On OWallet Backup & Recovery
This guide should help you get through backing up and recovering your wallet originally created with OWallet. Guide was prepared by your Telegram admin & Ontology Harbinger Dumont.
OWallet backup options
Before you create your first wallet address, you will be asked to select folder to store your keystore.db file. This file is a database of your private and public keys and can also help you to recover your wallets. However, it is not best option to use as primary backup.
Once you create new wallet, you will be asked to save your keystore .dat file, which by default, has same name as your wallet. For example, if your wallet name is Jack, the .dat file will be jack.dat. This file contains your wallet’s private key encrypted with password. To use it as a backup, you also need to remember or save the original password. If you have your .dat file, but do not remember the password, you will not be able to recover your wallet.
In addition, you can also save your private key in WIF format. This is a good option to store it as a recovery backup, because you don’t need to remember any additional passwords. The private key grants full access to the wallet, therefore, store it in a safe place and never share it with anyone!
How to restore the wallet if I have one of the above backups?
In case you have your keystore.db file, all you need to do is to click on settings in the lower left corner and change the keystore path to the folder where your file is located. This will load your wallet addresses protected with original passwords.
In case you have your .dat file backup, navigate to Wallets/Individual Wallet/Import wallet/Keystore (.dat). Here, set a new name for wallet, select .dat file and set original password to decrypt your .dat file. This option will import your wallet protected with the original password.
In case you have a private key as a backup of your wallet, navigate to Wallets/Individual Wallet/Import wallet/Private key (WIF). Here, set a new name for wallet, type in your WIF private key and set a new password.
Other import options, such as mnemonic phrases or private keys (64 Hex) serve for importing wallets created elsewhere. For instance, you can use mnemonic phrase to import wallet originally created in ONTO.

Warning! Keep all your backups in a safe place. Never provide it to anyone, because who owns your backups has full control over your wallet. Anyone who asks for your backup details is SCAM. Stay safe!
