The New Era of Web3 Requires Talents, How to Stake Your Claim
This article was contributed by Eden Yang, HRM at Ontology.
In the past year, Web3 has gradually entered the public vision and become familiar with everyone. When people mention Web3, the first reaction tends to be about sudden wealth, while the second reaction is about disruptive development. Indeed, the daily value fluctuation of this industry is far more than that of traditional industries, and the amount of money stolen by hackers from time to time is often among the top internet searches. The exciting and magnificent vision attracts many legends to join, among which one of the most famous is Elon Musk; Not only that, some of China’s big enterprises are also actively laying out a Web3 investment track or internal incubation. Many enterprises are excited to get a taste of the prospects yet to come. Web3 recruitment demand is also witnessing a massive surge, compared with the increasingly reduced positions and continually “graduated” Web2 industry, more young people are lapping it up.
Web3 is definitely one of the big trends for the future and worth betting on. When browsing major recruitment software, you will find that the industry’s high-paying positions are also particularly attractive, but relevant courses are rarely set up. There are few relevant learning opportunities that are available to interested parties. Then a question emerges, what are the talent requirements in the Web3 industry?
First, let’s talk about my understanding of Web3. Web3 is an era in which data ownership is attributed to individuals. Its underlying layer is blockchain technology and its constituent elements are NFTs. The economic system is established through DeFi and then paid by cryptocurrency, and autonomous organizations are formed through DAOs. Each of these is a niche, a disruption to the Web2 industry, and these are the paths that believers in Web3 have been building for years.
So, what type of candidates will be favored by a Web3 team? Take an example from one of the most common questions candidates will ask during an interview: Is the industry willing to hire someone with no industry experience?
The answer is yes, but only if the candidates are willing and able to learn. What is their will and ability?
For Web3, as a subversive concept, one of the biggest challenges is to digest and understand a large amount of information in a short period of time, so the willingness to learn quickly is particularly important. In addition, interest in language is inferior to actual use and participation, such as starting to use the MetaMask wallet, reading white papers, participating in an airdrop, finding and joining DAO organizations, listening to an AMA or Twitter Space, and paying attention to the industry KOLs, etc. Although this may seem like relatively entry-level behavior, it is far more reliable than just talking about going “all in Web3”;
Besides, in terms of capability, one of the major features of Web3 is openness. Many teams allow distributed office work, and under the characteristics of open source co-construction, everyone can be a contributor to the project. However, asynchronous working, the need to remain online for long hours, the communication with overseas teams, the technical understanding required by some non-technical positions and even understanding of contracts, and the intensity of continuous learning of new projects, often make some people flinch. Different from the process-oriented and standardized Web2 industry, Web3 insists on long periods of self discovery. After joining Web3, you may find that you know nothing and fall into self-doubt. But in fact, everyone is in the learning stage, so keep an optimistic and open mind, and communicate with industry members even more.
Capabilities like keeping an open and optimistic attitude towards this industry, and keeping a strong willingness to learn industry knowledge, as well as some ability in languages, should be sufficient to become a candidate to join the Web3 industry. This industry is in urgent need of talents who work with curiosity. I believe that in the near future, during the industry boom cycle, there will be more new technologies and opportunities in the public’s vision. Do not miss the opportunity to experience this boom and participate in the future construction of this industry.
OWN (Ontology Web3 Network) Infrastructure is a series of blockchain protocols and products that provides the much needed tools to create an interconnected, interoperable global blockchain ecosystem. The infrastructure is bringing trust, privacy, and security to Web3 applications through decentralized identity and data solutions.
Aimed at allowing Web3 developers to quickly build Web3 applications, saving them from creating basic functions from scratch, OWN includes the Ontology blockchain, ONT ID framework and more. Individuals can also seamlessly and quickly access Web3 through products such as ONTO Wallet.
