Poets like you and I need organic inspiration.

It’s an unpopular, ugly truth, but truth it is.

To write poetry that connects with people, we need to connect with ourselves. We need to have moments of insight or awe or raw emotion that spur an idea. There is no way around it.

It’s all too easy to interfere with your own inspiration

Unfortunately, blocking out your own inspiration can mean something as simple as not going for a walk in the evening.

Distractions, general busyness, work, family life and many more valid priorities can squeeze out the needed time for us to find what inspires us and puts us in the mood for writing.

Specific, repeatable activities are the key

What activities inspire you?

What makes you feel alive and connected with yourself?

Perhaps it’s a sport or other form of exercise. Perhaps it’s knitting or something totally different.
