SIZZLING SUMMER
A Swim Gone Wrong
Revisiting the time my glamorous fun in the sun ended in sweaty tears
Splish-splash into the sea
Water whirls around my sweatiness
Ahhh! The relief’s sweeter than caramel dipped in Mountain Dew
Sluggishly I paddle toward the horizon
Far from the children and their seagull squawks
Ready for bliss, but instead there’s a zap
In the coolness of water, my knee’s an inferno
A jellyfish pulses away victoriously
I limp-swim ashore
And sniffle in the sizzling sun.
I based this poem on a true story about the time I was stung by a jellyfish.
