Summer Challenge — Prompt Contest
The Night Chorus
A concert in my own backyard
The onomatopoeic poem which follows is in answer the “Sizzling Sounds of Summer Challenge” by Gael MacLean, editor of the publication, Ooh-Nom-Ahhh-Tuh-PEE-uh. The goal is to create poetry using “vivid imagery and sound effects.” I invite my readers to join the pub and share your own summer onomatopoeia poems or short stories.
Onomatopoeia — pronounced ah-nuh-mah-tuh-PEE-uh: imitating the sounds or smells or feelings of things through phonetic spelling. Usually, you’re trying to put sounds into writing.
The Night Chorus
Under angel painted skies in
gloaming crepuscular fairy light
where sunset softened edges glow
Into a world fired by magic
The night chorus rises
Leading is the Cicada chorale
buzzing, clicking, chittering
whine of droning dissonance
of the vibrating tymbals
zeea-zeea-zeea-zeea-zeeeeeeeeeeeeee
