This podcast is good for those who are interested in: Infectious Disease, Emergency Medicine, case studies, sarcastic humor
Typical length of episodes: 3-5 minutes
How often a new episode comes out: About twice a week
Episode topics: whether influenza B caused encephalitis, consequences of stopping treatment for meningitis, hidden candida, MRSA, and much more.
Sample episode — “995: Looking for the why?”: Did a patient get serratia from a mud bath? Our fearless host investigates the evidence and goes through the case, adding in a touch of humor for a potentially distasteful subject.
Tidbit about the show: Each podcast is, in the words of its creator, “a case [he has] seen, a reference and at least one dumb attempt at humor.” Prior to the creation of the show in 2009, these cases were featured as blog posts, some of which have been compiled and published in two books.
About the host: Mark Crislip, MD is an infectious disease doctor and Chief of Infectious Diseases in the Legacy Health hospital system in Portland, OR. He is a staunch advocate for science-based medicine and produces two other podcasts, QuackCast and PusCast. His media empire is such that he has his own Wikipedia page.
