Sample episode — “#89 Approach to Suicidal Ideation and Behavior”: This episode surrounds a case study that involves an adolescent patient. Listeners will learn a general approach to interviewing an adolescent patient who presents with a suicide attempt or self-harm behavior. It was written by Colin Siu, a medical student at the University of Alberta, and developed with Dr. Melissa Chan, a Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician and Clinical Lecturer at the University of Alberta and Stollery Children’s Hospital.

Tidbit about the show: PedsCases started in 2008 as a grassroots project by several medical students with faculty support at the University of Alberta to supplement the undergraduate curriculum. What started as a way to translate core pediatric knowledge to undergraduate learners has since grown to 55,000 unique visitors from over 150 countries and over 1,000,000 podcast downloads.

About the host: The podcast is a joint project between medical students at the University of Alberta and pediatricians at the Stollery Children’s Hospital; hosts alternate between Pediatrics professors and medical students.
