Search a file with whereis and find — The Cheat Sheet Linux

Welcome to the Cheat Sheet Linux. Today, let’s see how to search the file with whereis and find.

whereis

whereis <OPTIONS> <FILENAME> displays the command name, the path in PATH, and associated documentation page. whereis displays more information than which.

The arguments are :

  • -b: searches only executables,
  • -m: searches only man pages,
  • -s: search only source files,
