The US needs to Err on more Inclusion, not Less
The US has gotten stingy. We seem to think that specific monopolies are for White Conservative voters and rest of us can I guess go to hell because we are not “True Americans”. Trying to keep people from the polls, using mass incarceration, inefficient immigration policies, the location of voting places, and flat out narrowing the voting days and times have worked quite well for the Conservative right.
But for how long? You can only hide a dying population for so long. And the birth rates are so low that replacement of the population is a pipe dream at best. The current administration has basically destroyed any possibility for the next several generations of gaining new voters and forget the cities. So they have to game the system. But it doesn’t have to be this way!
We could Err on More Inclusion!
If teens can die in the military and in school mass shootings should they not have the right to vote? High School should be sufficient age to vote. If they are old enough to die they are old enough to vote! States need to take back immigration from the Federal government. If the Feds can’t do their job we have to find a way to include people and there is no reason for immigrant illegal or otherwise to not be able to vote in local and state elections.
Voting should be national holidays. And why hasn’t anyone given thought to tax credits for voting in the election? I can understand why felons can’t vote in Federal elections. But there is NO reason why prisoners who are not felons and there are millions of them should not be allowed to vote. AND ALL prisoners should be able to vote in state and local elections. The concept of locking prisoners and taking away their voice and vote is inhumane and systematic discrimination. All people should have state and local voting rights.
And if voting centers are too small or in insufficient numbers well make every workplace and worship space places to vote. And let's keep it simple with paper ballots to avoid foreign intervention.
We can resolve our voting cultures slow decline. We can stop this and improve our culture and expand the number of parties and reduce the tyranny of the conservative minority party that is destroying this country.
