We are excited to announce the University’s second Open Research Forum (ORF) on Monday 5th November, 1.30–3.30pm. Supported by Colette Fagan, the ORF supports the University’s strategic aims related to world-class research and social responsibility, and aims to highlight the link between open research and impact, both academic and in the wider world.

The theme of November’s Forum is ‘How can openness improve the research environment?’ and will feature academics from across the University sharing case studies on how they’ve incorporated openness into their research practice. We hope this opportunity to hear about real-life experiences of open research at Manchester will provide you with inspiration and practical ideas to adapt to your own research area, including to inform your REF submission and environment statement planning.

Confirmed case studies:

  • Professor Hannah Barker, School of Arts, Languages and Cultures: Open Access monograph publishing and research impact in History
  • Dr Caroline Jay, School of Computer Science: Making our methods genuinely open: what does it mean, and how will it change the culture of research?
  • Professor Andreas Prokop, School of Biological Sciences: How to develop objective-driven long-term initiatives to communicate the importance of your research to a range of target audiences

The Open Research Forum will take place in the Dalton Room at UMIC following the REF21 Unit of Assessment (UoA) leads meeting from 1:30pm — 3:30pm.
