Private letter to Mr. Simon
Dear Mr. Simon,
This letter is to you about why you should consider having an American Football program.
First of all, having an American Football team would be great for a multitude of middle and high school pupils who have expressed a fervent desire to have engage in such an athletic endeavour. Moreover, the initiation of an American Football team opens a window of opportunity for NIST Falcons to expand their athleticism and community spirit — Friday night games, bake sales, marching band, and cheer. Earning more trophies will also augment school pride and I know for a fact that as Athletic Director, the school’s reputation is a key consideration of yours. School pride would result in jubilant students and every teacher wants their students to be happy.
Not only has the benefit of American Football been considered just in a school-centric approach, American Football is a great sport and is widely enjoyed by not only Americans but by millions of people around the world. It’s different from the other sports from at NIST. It supplements one’s:
- Grit
- Team spirit
- Sportsmanship
- Physique
- Athletic psyche
Another reason why American Football should be a sport at NIST is because people at NIST would like to try out a new sport and it will definitely be popular because it is unique and new. Also people would like the action that American Football provides like hard hitting, running, and throwing a Football which other sports don’t have. Compared to sports like Basketball and Soccer it’s more of a contact sport with a lot of action and movement.
Not only that, Y12s and 13s must fulfill CAS requirements. More than 20 students in Y12 and 13 have expressed the desire to do American Football as their “activity” requirement in CAS. If they don’t achieve CAS, they won’t get a NIST and IB diploma. They have expressed impassioned desire to play football because they see it is as sport that can expand their horizons both in terms of their resume and physical health.
Thirdly, I think American Football is a growing sport not only in America but all around the world. A recent report from ABC news stated that 80+ countries have organized federations of American Football. This supports my reason on why American Football is a growing sport. Another statement to support my reason that is there are about 13 million + American Football fans in the UK alone and 16 million+ American Football fans in Mexico. This supports my statement that American Football is a international growing sport.
Finally American Football can make people be more confident themselves by toughening them and giving them more confidence in themselves. For examples when you see a 6ft 2 inches 180 pound defender running at you you’re definitely going to be scared and afraid you might get knocked out. By having situations like that in your life is going to make you tougher and stronger, also you will be less afraid of things you thought were scary before. Toughening you for the future is good for you because you can’t go around the rest of your life afraid of everything and have fun.
One of the difficulties that we might face if accepted is that the field may occupied by the Chelsea Club practice. Though I have an a solution for that problem. I think we may be able to squeeze our practice in before the Chelsea Football practice. We may also be able to do our practices right after school so that we may not interfere with the Chelsea Football practice.
To conclude American Football is an internationally growing sport and is growing out to other countries including countries in Asia. So to finally conclude I hope you take into consideration to allowing an American Football team at NIST. Thanks for reading my letter
Regards,
Travis Turnbull
