An Open Letter to Clarence Thomas on the Shocking Breach of Trust

Dear Clarence,

This week you told the Associated Press that the Supreme Court has been changed by the shocking leak of the draft opinion on Roe v. Wade. You asserted that such a breach of trust is undermining our judicial institutions.

And we feel your outrage.

Because clearly, the leak around the intentions of the court is what undermined our trust.

It’s not the fact that Justice Amy Comey Barrett swore at her confirmation hearing that she had no agenda on the future of abortion rights or same-sex marriage and that she would not be anyone’s pawn if confirmed to the Supreme Court.

It’s not that. After all, she didn’t lie so much as stretch the truth. And what’s the big deal? It’s not like she was under oath or anything. She is no one’s pawn. A willing participant is hardly a pawn, now, is it?

It’s certainly not because one party decided to hold off on confirmation hearings for Justice Garland in 2016 — roughly 8 months before the next Presidential election.

After all, the courts are not political. Garland didn’t deserve to be there. Unlike Amy Comey Barrett. She most certainly…
