Open Platform — Open Data
Who owns the world’s data?
If your deep dive into these questions — there is not an easy answer. Many corporates measure the world in detail to provide a good user experience for their products. The licenses of this data lie by its creator and the have new possibilities for other income streams.
But there are a lot of projects, which not focusing on profit — instead, they get motivated by providing knowledge and information which is open and free.
There is a big community that collects geodata and gets supported by the OpenStreetMap Foundation has the goal, to provide open and free data about the world.
We using the OpenStreetMap for our marketplace and other applications, and help them collect more open and free information about local communities.
OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a collaborative project to create a free editable map of the world. The data from OSM can be used in various ways including the production of paper maps and electronic maps (similar to Google Maps, for example), geocoding of address and place names, and route planning.
With this OSM integration, we can use their data and display it on the marketplace and we give users the information they need.
OpenStreetMap by numbers
- 60.667 marketplaces.
- 290.637 pharmacies.
- 1.063.207 restaurants.
- 3.290.316 shops.
- …and so many more!
How does it work with the open marketplace?
Our first goal is to provide users full information about their local community. With the OpenStreetMap data, we bypass the “chicken-egg” problem — because many shops and other things are already there.
Shop owners can request access to their local authority, to get the ownership of the digital twin of their shop. After a successful ownership transformation, the shop owner can directly use the open marketplace shop applications to sell goods and services.
