Pushback

My daughter brought her Play Station 5 over to our house yesterday. We spent the day playing Red Dead Redemption and it was a lot of fun.

But from my perspective, she can’t afford it. She’s as close to being broke as you can be in modern America. Minimum wage, $1900 rent on top of living expenses and two dogs — I know she’s running on fumes.

She doesn’t have the money to go back to school. Her husband works whenever he finds it and the only way to pay their rent is by having roommates.

All of them are stuck in working class America. There’s no way out for my child except she takes a second job, and the first is already a meat grinder.

She tells me she won’t have children. None of her friends will either. This is the first sign of revolt.

NEET

In the West, you’ll begin to hear talk of people Not in Education, Employment or Training. (NEET). There are millions of them.
