I Won’t be Joining the No Kings Protests
I’ll be walking the picket line with striking hospital workers instead
My family and friends are excited about the upcoming NO KINGS national day of protest. I’m not.
Although I respect some of the groups participating in the event, and appreciate the fact that more people are realizing the necessity of learning to organize and speak up, I feel events like No Kings are not an effective way to address this country’s many problems.
This event, like the Hands Off protest in April, is more about what we are against than about what we are for. From nokings.org:
In America, we don’t put up with would-be kings. NO KINGS is a national day of action and mass mobilization in response to increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption from Trump and his allies. We’ve watched as they’ve cracked down on free speech, detained people for their political views, threatened to deport American citizens, and defied the courts. They’ve done this all while continuing to serve and enrich their billionaire allies.
