What’s Holding You Back?
The world you know is disappearing fast
America 2025 — it’s a mess. People are freaking out, facing the loss of things that they assumed would last for at least their lifetimes. DOGE seems to be all powerful. What can we do? What can we do?
Well, we could protest. And, we are seeing lots of protests, most of which are ineffectual, because many who are new to protesting think that they can join a group, wave a sign, shout a few slogans, and voilà!, mission accomplished.
[ Oblivious to the fact that many people have been protesting for years, pleading with their fellow Americans to support them in their efforts to bring about a more equitable society, and have been largely ignored.]
Many folks are new to the protest scene, and haven’t bothered to study the history of what makes a resistance movement effective. I’m seeing lots of “anti-Elon, anti-fascism” type protests, that devolve into screaming matches with the MAGA folks who show up to protest the protestors. Joining an “anti-fascism” protest, yet allowing oneself to be easily goaded and manipulated by those holding an opposing position, makes the protest ineffectual.
