Finally, last month I decided to go ahead and join Medium.

And, boy, I'm glad I did!

As a writer, I had always wanted to have a place where I could write, share some ideas, find people with similar interests, and become better.

Medium, I must confess, met all my requirements and expectations and offered additional benefits or features I didn’t even know I needed as an online writer.

Here are some of the reasons why I recently joined Medium:

I Needed a Meaningful Conversation:

As you know, today’s world is running on digitalization, so the social media platforms always seem to me like two groups arguing in a stadium.

It’s action-packed, with lots of noise, but all people care about is how much attention they can get from others because, in the real sense, no one cares, and no one is listening.

I wanted something more; I needed substance for something more than simple chitchat and idle conversations.

What I yearn for is what the Medium community has been offering its users, “a place to read, write, share real human stories, and learn from others.

Here, I've found a community that values different opinions and perspectives, empathy, and intellectual curiosity.

I get to meet with Writers and readers who engage in respectful debates, share perspectives that challenge and inspire; what more could any writer ask for?

The Allure of Original Storytelling:

I’ve always been interested in people’s personal life stories, what they’ve tried, what worked and what did not, and why it didn’t. To me, that's how I learn.
I wanted to complement my own experience with the experience of others, to be inspired by their success, or to avoid failure using their experiences.

The Medium platform has a lot of unique voices which range from ordinary writers to journalists and poets to entrepreneurs and philosophers etc, and it engulfs a variety of rich human experiences.

As I started reading on Medium, surprisingly, I found people who wrote directly to my spirit and soul.
Their words seemed to echo the fear, hope, and passion that I have carried all this while.

For the first time in quite a long time, I felt truly happy and less alone in my thoughts, reading people’s work on Medium and seeing that they could also relate to my feelings and emotions.

Medium is a Place for Curious Minds:

Another thing that caught my attention is the Medium's Partner Program (MPP).

The possibility and opportunity to monetize my writing and get to make money depending on the readers’ engagement while reading my articles meets my desire.

Unlike other platforms, the Medium community is not about getting more clicks or likes; it ain’t about going viral; it is about creating valuable content that readers can relate to; I’m talking about real-life stories!

The MPP community is friendly and helpful. It provides helpful comments and moral support.

At the end of the day, we are all in this amazing community together, working hard to produce work that will bring out positive emotions in our readers, like inspiration, education, or entertainment.

My Medium Journey So Far:

One month in, I've:

Published about 40 articles, exploring topics from creativity to personal growth, finance, and science and Tech.

I’m also connecting with fellow writers to learn and gain more insight and ideas.

Last but not least I've discovered such amazing writers, whose work I eagerly anticipate.

Some of my favorite writers on Medium are but are not limited to the following names:

There you have it, why I joined Medium and my journey so far.

Thanks for reading. Please drop your comments and observations. Let’s grow as a community!
