Our conclusion to the pros and cons of living in an RV and returning to a town house apartment.

Lets start with living in our now current town house apartment. Justin and myself (Joelle) live in Hillsboro OR and have lived here for about eight months. Our Town house is a three story, three bedroom, three bathroom. We share it with Justin’s business partner Matt and have a dog Teddy and cat Tally. With that being said lets start with the pros about living in this town house apartment!

PROS:

  • We have a lot of space. Great when we want friends over and since we have a roommate also great for feeling less crammed.
  • We feel a bit more comfortable when we have more time getting to know the area since we haven’t moved for almost a year it has been wonderful to get to know our surroundings and the people in them.
  • You can have more things. Now that can be a bad things as well but for the people who love collecting things it important!

CONS:

  • BILLS,BILLS,BILLS! You will have bills anywhere but its how much a house/apartment can cost which is usually quite a bit. You have the water, electricity, trash, pet fees, and so on. (note you do have bills traveling in an RV but much less and you have a wide variety when you pick your location.)
  • We have it harder to be more actively outdoors. We can never fully put our finger on it but we don’t have a choice in the weather so we get to cozy in our concrete home.
  • When we do travel it is more expensive. We have our rent on top of a trip and finding a place to stay on top of what ever activity's we plan on doing on our trip. For us it is a bit much since we have been spoiled being able to take our home with us when we went on trips.

Now on to living in an RV!

Now we are a bit biased since we want to live in an RV again, but none the less here are the pros and cons of the RV life!

PROS:

  • Traveling DUH! Of course this is a large part of living in an RV especially if you want to the full experience.
  • Our connection to the outdoors. When we traveled and lived in an RV we felt like being outside more due to the smaller space but mostly because we wanted to experience the location we chose to travel to!
  • We had the opportunity to enjoy so many lifestyles, cities, families, and cultures of our country! Somethings you just can not get by living in one place. (There are Facebook pages where you can meet others who travel and meet up in places they are traveling to.) the more friends the better.
  • Its easier to stay clean. we own less and have less messes since we notice more in a smaller space. Justin works from home so for us its a whole lot easier to have everything in a smaller space and less to worry about.

CONS:

  • Its a lot of work. The more you travel the more you have to check the tires, water tanks, condition of the RV itself, finding a new place to stay and so on. Yes it is mostly fun but its still moving to a new location.
  • Speaking of water tanks, Black water tanks are no joke, learn how to dump the poo tank before you need to know! We made the mistake of waiting till we had to dump it to learn.
  • Windy days are another story. Obviously do not go to areas that have hurricane seasons during the hurricane season, I don’t know why I need to say that but that way you can’t say I didn’t warn you. You feel everything in an RV. So if you have a bit of a problem hearing the wind hitting your RV just really think about your location and the time of year.
  • Saying good bye to all the people we meet has to be the biggest problem with traveling. We are so trilled to meet all these different people and having to leave a location we have gotten comfortable with is hard.

The life style of traveling is an amazing experience. To meet so many amazing people, to feel fully aware of your surroundings and getting to be where ever we want is OUR DREAM. We plan on returning to this amazing lifestyle within the next year or so.

BECAUSE THE GREATEST PART OF A ROAD TRIP ISN’T ARRIVING AT YOUR DESTINATION. IT’S ALL THE WILD STUFF THAT HAPPENS ALONG THE WAY ~Unknown
