This is about the ability of communities and people to verify the information that they are receiving (or not), and the ability to enforce sanctions over bad actors who are distorting the information ecosystems. Absent enforcement mechanisms, bad actors can get away scot-free and continue to destroy communities and countries. Somehow there ought to be ways for communities and societies to create platforms for free and verifiable information. In addition, there should be ways for communities and societies to enact sanctions on bad actors and to find ways to restore the veracity of information they consume.
