Happy spring!

A lot has happened since our last update:

  • We’ve had a chance to join a number of meetups and conferences to present OSSci and further broaden our network. Particularly noteworthy were deRSE ’24, the annual gathering of the German RSE (research software engineer) community, and Py4AI, the inaugural PyData event focused on Python and artificial intelligence developers in Italy.
  • Our first annual report is coming together nicely. Stay tuned!
  • Our interest groups now have 300 (non-unique) members between them, growing at about 1% per week.
  • It’s taken a bit longer than planned, but our interest groups are starting to produce tangible output. Our Chemistry IG is currently preparing living documents to collect tools and resources for reaction prediction and foundation models in chemistry. Our Climate and Sustainability IG is starting to explore the physics-informed machine learning space and will have a shared doc soon to support this effort. And our Life Sciences IG is coming out with a shared doc soon to support its efforts to better understand the wider ecosystem of organizations and communities supporting open source. Each group is looking for additional collaborators, and now is a great time to join.
